Squads: Grouping Units for One Call

A lightweight way for a few units to work the same call together, without dispatch having to manage it.

A squad is a small, temporary grouping — a handful of units working the same call or situation together, formed by the units themselves rather than assigned from above.

Forming one

Any on-duty unit can start a squad, right from the board. Starting one automatically puts you in it — there's no separate "create, then join" step.

Joining and leaving

Other on-duty units can join an existing squad the same way. Switching directly from one squad to another works cleanly — leaving your old one and joining the new one happens in the same action, so you're never accidentally left in two at once or orphaned in an empty one.

Tying a squad to a call

A squad can be attached to the specific call it's working, which is what makes it genuinely useful rather than just a label — anyone looking at the board can see which units are grouped up and what they're actually handling together.

What happens when everyone leaves

A squad with nobody left in it is cleaned up automatically — it doesn't sit around as an empty row on the board forever. The last person to leave simply ends the squad by leaving.

What a squad isn't

It's not a permission boundary — it doesn't change what anyone can see or do on the board. It's purely organizational, a way for units to signal "we're working this together" without dispatch needing to manually track and announce every grouping over the radio.
